Cautionary Tales for perilous times
"For centuries, fairy tales and nursery rhymes have been told to children to teach them lessons about people, their culture, and the world. Many of these facts were – and are – quite harsh, and while some of these issues are timeless, in the twenty-first century humanity faces new issues, and people (adults and the child within each of us) no longer have fairy tales to subtly inform us of issues about which we need to be aware. Our cultural conversations have gone awry."
– Dan Jahn
Photographer and writer Dan Jahn's visionary new book, Cautionary Tales for Perilous Times, takes up the gauntlet thrown down by politically-correct parents who refuse to read fairy tales, and illustrates contemporary issues for a new millennium. The book dramatically reinterprets a pantheon of classic characters in stunning new visual ways, in the hopes of subtly introducing these issues into the cultural conversation.
